Luis Avendaño, born in Bogotá, studied at the conservatory of his home town and at the Simón Bolívar Conservatory in Caracas, Venezuela. He completed his intermediate diploma under David Petersen at the Hochschule für Musik und Dastellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main and his Bachelor and Master studies under Prof. Gustavo Núñez at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf.
Avendaño took part in master classes with Stefano Canuti, George Sakakeeny, Eduardo Calzada, Simon van Holen, Eduardo Sirtori, Higinio Arrue and Ole Kristian Dahl. He gained his orchestral experience in the Bogotá Youth Symphony Orchestra, as first bassoon in the Chacao Youth Symphony Orchestra in Venezuela, at the Penderecki Orchestrakademie, Philharmonisches Kammerorchester Berlin, among others. He is currently a member of the bassoon group of the Russian Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra St. Petersburg and the Latin Orchestra of Europe.
Avendaño was the winner of the German NRW scholarship and a scholarship holder of the Stiftung Freimaurerloge zur Einigkeit e.V. in Frankfurt am Main.
