Kathya Contreras (Violin)

Born in 1993, Kathya received her first violin lesson in Valdivia, Chile, from her father, Professor Patricio Contreras.

In 2007 the young violinist won the 2nd prize in the Competition of the National Foundation for Youth Orchestra of Chile (FOJI). As a soloist Kathya has performed with the Valdivia Philharmonic Orchestra.

She attended master classes with Professor Thomas Brandis, Daniel Guedes, Hubert Buchberger, Carlos Johnson, Sophie Heinrich, Patricio Gutiérrez and Alissa Margulis.

In 2015 she received a scholarship from YEHUDI MENUHIN Live Music Now Hamburg e.V.

In 2018 she received the degree Bachelor of Music at the University of Music in Lübeck and in the season 2018/19 she played as academist by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Lübeck.

She is currently studying the Master degree in violin at the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen with Alissa Margulis.
